Forge & quaife

As soon as my engine/gearbox decides to give up ill be looking into buying a forged engine and quaife gearbox.. I've looked into the price of quiafe internals but I don't know where to begin looking into forged engines.Am I best off buying both new? Or would I be doing myself a favour looking for 2nd hand? Obviously I can imagine it'd be quite easy to be fobbed off buying 2nd hand, my mate bought an sti with what he thought had hks pistons and rods as he has all the receipts with even the registration of the car on them but he sold it to a mechanic as the headgasket went, the mechanic took the engine apart and everything was standard.

What prices am I looking at for 2nd hand forged engine and quaife box? And how much better are quaife internals? Do they drive the same? Oh and is the RB gearbox any stronger than the normal one?

Cheers

2k for second hand forged lump and even then its probably pistons and headgasket upgrade maybe new water pump oil pump checked. 2-2and a half for quaife box and to buy new on internals danny will tell you is not cheap replacing all the parts seals etc. And from what i read simple answer a rb box is no stronger and if they break gears are no longer availible new

When your r gives up or dies.
Break it up or get rid then move on to some other breed of 4 wheel fun.

Pulsars are too old to mess about with nowadays.
They've had their days. LOL

yep as above
we do new build forge lumps from 2k (with warranty) but youll need to run them in so have to trust yourself on that one.
secondhand goood quality built forge lumps go from 2k upwards aswell (some people dont want all the running in palava so prefer s/h)
never ever believe what your told or reciepts for that matter as things arent always what they seem, its easy to fraudulently copy an invoice;-)
to build one yourself will cost you around £1500 in parts and engineering costs

quaifes are now very difficult to obtain so fetch premium money, as said anything from 2 - 2.5k

to be fair i do agree with you in some respects, but many who buy a pulsar are on a shoestring budget so bit unfair sayng that isnt it!

it really is all down to peoples budgets.....no performance car is cheap to run and if you buy say an evo 4 or 5, scooby then take a look at the price of s/h parts compared to pulsar, youll pay shite loads more in running costs alone plus the reliability thing is no better than a pulsar and in many cases its worse

pound for pound there still the best vfm hothatch on the market and whether i was dealing in them or not i will always own one as they still put a big grin on my face after all these years, get one set up properly and there still a massive hoot on trackdays, round the back lanes and in hillclimbs, sprints etc and can embarrass many big power cars and caterham type motors so what you just said is unfair to the guys who own them and have invested money in sorting out the car they can afford to the best of their ability.

needed a comment like that when the chips are down, maybe that will get some response from people who love the pulsars:doh:

Don't get me wrong guys. Never meant to diss the pulsar.

I am a huge fan of the pulsar myself and I've got a totally standard mint R myself.
But let's face it, they are all getting on a bit.

Age has nothing to do with how a car performs that cant be resolved with good old fashion human ingenuity , I love the pulsar as it is and enjoy improving it, newer cars are Shite in comparison and too many electronic components that

A) A problem When they go wrong
B) Hinder driving style
C) expensive to fix when they break
D) diagnosing the issue

The pulsar is a point and go car simple but effective

My pulsar may be old but when you look at it it was way ahead of its time. How many cars have umbrella holders? When did electric fold in mirrors come on everyday cars? The only real thing that annoys me is all them dials but no clock! Always used to lose track of time while driving and enjoying the R

I've got Bruces spences 2.2 fardon engineering 2.2 stroker kit in the garage if you want to build your own motor it needs piston or just one if you can buy just one lol, But the crank/rods & 3 pistons are in perfect condition.

Wish you mentioned this a few months ago lol, I was re-building my engine then and would have had that off you.
I have a spreadsheet listing all the bits I bought for my engine re-build and it comes in at around 1.5K (with forged pistons, cosworth head gasket and ACL bearings then all the other standard replacement parts on top).

Im not saying anything about pulsars that makes them drop value.
But let's face it johnny johnny they are getting on and on.
There's only a certain amount of restoration work you can do to a pulsar
And it'll never be the way it rolled out from the factory.
Even Nissan have stopped production of most parts for the rare species.

All you members take it too personal.

Come on guys it's only a rot box with 4 wheels----lol
