Great day, hard, fast rallying. Never used so much 5th gear. Done a couple of pairs of tyres and nearly 90 litres of fuel. 12th o all. Very very
happy with that, as we had some tech issues with the car. Trophy for best tynemouth club members result.
All in all a memorable day

jon your welcome to have yourself a blast in my car anytime and see the difference in the turbo. what bhp you running and you still running restricted 3071 mate ?

Good offer ta. Mine's a shadow of what a proper GTIR should be....We have to run a 34mm inlet restrictor into the turbo. Its the rules. Aftermath
of the Group B era.

Mine has a nice (too big..) roller bearing jobby strangled by the restrictor. Oh well, best try to make do with 280 horse.

The good news is its fairly reliable, and still seems to pull its way to 5th gear quickly. Goodness knows how it drinks so much fuel. Although sunday's rally it was mostly full throttle everwhere

pm sent. You might not find this with entering events but are local rallies and auto cross less advertised now ? If this car looks half as good moving as it dose sitting on your drive its worth seeing lads built for its purpose

thanks, its not the getting as much use as I would like, but its done the Xmas stages, Jack Frost and now the Turnbull Trophy since Xmas. Hoping to get it out onto Otterburn next.
Britishrally.co.uk is a good site (think that's right..)
All events are MSA, so MSA rally would be a good search.
Turnbull trophy was 'no spectator' but there was a designated car park for those that turned up.
Tynemouth and district motor club are doing the next otterburn event, 16th sept, a great place to drink tea, eat sarnies, and generally catch hyperthermia.
mk1 golf is ready to autocross also, full race 16V2L. search aneccc autocross

will do.
The 'to do' list includes;
1. rear wheel bearing (totally shot: 1/2" of play at the top of the wheel: are these weak?
2. starter motor: needs a tap with a hammer to work: is this normal?
3. two indicators: these bounced out over the bumps. the cheap chinese ones I use dont fit well
4. slight water drip down the back of the engine. find/fix
5. tyres: it literally eats front tyres. hardest X04 dunlops disappear, even in the wet.......
apart from that, the car really shined this weekend.
being able to leave quality mk2 escorts for dead was priceless..
