okay so i got a track day at brands on friday the limit is 105db.
last track day i done was a few years ago and i remember it was 104db then!
any quick fixes to bring the decibels down?
i remember reading about wedging wire wool up the pipe ive tried that and it just seems to blow straight out.
any other ideas to try and help a cheap skate out:lol::lol:

You've really got to ram the wool in there so its lodged

Then pop round to the testers, build up the rev's beforehand and it should remain in there.

Once passed then rev the car hard and that should blow out the wire wool with ease.

Out of interest what exhaust system/tailpipe do you have?

Other than that, get a replacement baffle. Its the only real way to keep it quite (and for me, my sanity)

right my system is a bit of this and that lol
i have a ebay elbow, goose downpipe and silenced decat followed by 5ziegen centre and rear box.
i would rather a new baffle but i dont have the money at the moment(dont worry i have put the oc trackday money to one side lol)

I know it seems obvious Joe, but a bung? You can always enlarge the hole slightly so it's not as restrictive.

mabe my ball of wire wall is to small lol?
well if i cant get the wool to stay up there i guess a bung is my only option. How on the ball are the marshalls could i get away with getting it sound tested with a bung then jus take it off?

Possibly, but it's not really worth it I don't think. If they let you in, then hear you gun it down a main straight without the bung and pull you in - they won't be looking too kindly at you, surely.

Some guys are switched on others are a little slower and I quote:

"oh is that one of those Glanza cars?" (a marshal talking to me just before its sound tested)

I'd push up a big ball of wire wool up the exhaust, if possible use a rod or something like that to make sure its in there then give the car a little rev and it should stay put. Then rev it hard and the ball should "pop" out like a pea from a peashooter.

If you used a bung then once its passed the sound tests you shouldn't have any problems after that if you take it out.(talking from experience)
Best bet is to run around for half an hour with the bung in then take it out :thumb:

i know some people are aiming the tailpipe towards the ground to pass noise emmissions tests at some race courses. another option is an exhaust control valve(butterfly valve) controlled from within the cabin. they are worth lookin at for temporarily quietening your car.

drill 2 small holes in the end of the tailpipe and use wire to hold the steel wool in.

i made a bung for our exhaust from a 3" mongoose tailpipe, its held in with thick wire so i can easily remove it.

I asked about one of those butterfly valves for the GTi-R from Apex; they told me it was junk and they wouldn't sell me one. - I think the simplist solution is the best; drill one or two holes just like Martyn says, then you can experiment with a couple of different things to use as bungs and have a piece of wire in to stop them blowing out.

You may not even need to use fine steel wool; if you can hold it it, something coarse like one of those pot scrubbers might cut the noise without stopping too much flow.

bean can with 10mm holes drilled in it joe....fill it with wire wool (this cant blow out then as the holes side of the can will be facing the rear of car) then do as martyn suggested, drill a couple holes either side then use a stiff bit of wire to hold it in place
jobs a goodun

brands aint too bad with noise limits in the day, its the evening sessions they are strict on so i wouldnt worry too much, think mines noisier than yours anyway and that goes through the test. but if your worried just make the above and slap it in there
