where to buy a new/secondhand engine from?

hi
all

i bought this car 2 months ago with rebuilt engine and drove it for 3 hours and got to Dover car park and it started smoking and battery light came on ect. phoned the seller and we both thought oil in the alternator some how and off i went again a week later it did it again..

had it checked over couldn't see any thing so of i went again after doing around 750-800 miles i decided to put me foot down and it wouldn't rev it popped and banged and that was it! :(

car since then has been used to travel 5miles to work every day and bang the coolant is pressurizing constantly ! :( (my little bit of oil turned out to be a major engine problem after 3 hours of owning it! in the 3 hours i was shifting gears at 3000-3500 rpm)

started taking car apart and the engine is nearly ready to come out and haven't looked at it since!

as i would like to buy a replacement engine if i can afford it question is where to look?

thanks
Sam

Good point - Kate's was built to a high spec by Bob, but has never even been used.

I'm noticing a trend here: Everyone is recommending Boby. - He's a cornerstone of the community, and I'm not aware of a bad engine built by his company for a paying customer. You could have one of the tuners do it (although most of them have lost interest in the GTi-R now), but in terms of cost effectiveness you get more bang for your buck with Bob.

I know I sound a bit like and advert, but in all honesty I have nothing to do with the business. - It's just that when things go wrong Bob is always one of the first to help people out, so I figure it doesn't hurt to push business his way. ;-)

oki

i must of been unlucky then as every 1 rates BOB and i have nothin against him just i bought my car from him did 3hours in it to dover and the head gasket broke!! (at the time we didnt even think it was the head gasket )

(and yes it wasnt going over 3500 rpm as it was being ran in!)

but after doing 850 miles in it and losing power i decided to put the loud pedal down and it popped and banged and that was it! car has been sat in garage for weeks!

i spose its called getting into the R's way of life !!

I have read you post's else where and your not quite telling the truth about running it in are you!! get a cylinder leak down test done buy a proper mechanic before you condem the engine as you may just have another problem to cause the missfire (sound like a electrical gremlin by the way the car wont rev, if it was mechanical it would still rev just not happily), and as for the coolent situation that may be a air-lock in the system which is common on these car's

car is being taken apart by a m8 at work a fully trained mechanic in the trade for 30 years and for the truth all messages are the truth bought the car it has started slowing down and had a few probs in between after trying to get french mot it failed badly so put it on the ramps at work one night with the boss and my dad found quite alot wrong with it came out of the garage with boss driving and decided to boot it and it didn't rev over 4000 without popping and banging .

i will admit i was expecting it to be perfect having a recon engine and it wasn't but after reading other threads on here im startin to understand its just these cars they go wrong and trying to deal with it properly with out cutting corners as well as paying the loan back for the car

ive deliberately stayed off this thread till now but i knew where it was going from the off and to tell you im p1ssed off is an understatement.

now time to tell a few facts before you go slandering me:evil:

first off you robbed me of nigh on £300 by shortchanging me in euros which i still have not recieved.....fact!

recieved an email from your mother explaining your bad luck and attitude with cars and people past and present, and an appology on your behalf....want me to put that on here as yes ive saved every one of them!

i stood accused of selling you standard shocks when infact they were koni adjustables:roll: your reply ''ol yeah i was tired and didnt look properly'' no appology!

offered to put years mot on car for you prior to sale to which any probs picked up on mot would have been sorted by myself to which you declined as you couldnt afford £50 even after knocking me for £300:evil:

offered to send you parts free of charge (which i would have done out of courtesy) once you had paid balance of car but you still never paid so you will recieve sweet f### all from me in the way of advice, parts or anything else for that matter, hence why ive never wished to reply to any of your threads!

now to the engine
i repeatedly told you before driving car away that you must adhere to the running in procedure, you was also given written run in details which you should of adhered to, i DO NOT make these up for my own benefit!
but as i thought your one of those lads who always knows best and below is just one of your many quotes from previous posts

it has not got much to do with me to be honest i work in a garage on a apprenticeship and i booked it in for a pre M.O.T check and it failed badly and they done the pollution test and was reving 2 4000 thousand any way the facts are the car inst to bad for age but its in a bad way for french stanstards and as i live here not uk it needs sorting..

So after having pollution done the engine was nice and hot and i was upset and annoyed that i have to spend a gd load of money to make it run right before making it look right ... so any way leaving the garage not putting foot to the floor but going up the rpm hit just under 6 and it pops and bangs and doesn't run right so turned the car around went back to the garage and its been there since.. (That was Monday)
For the guaranty its over i know which is a shame as i had done 650 odd miles with out going over 3500 rpm but its done now
now tbh thats what youve wrote on here but i would gamble money on the fact that the car was caned from the off!!!
youve also stated in another previous post that it revs right round to the limiter when stationary:shock:
do you not know that this is one of the worst things you can do to a new engine or any engine for that matter:der:

you claim to be an apprentice mechanic blah blah blah and your mates a top notch mechanic yet you couldnt between you sort out a few minor problems such as the small probs you had......well done for that:lol::lol:

now i could pick you apart piece by piece with quotes, emails and other drivel that youve written but quite frankly ive better things to do like help out genuine people.

now heres the good bit:-D......as far as im concerned i hope the whole car goes up in smoke as i dont like people who try/did knock me for money, so in a roundabout way justice has been served upon you.
that was a good car for little money but you destroyed it by your own stupidity and non understanding of anything mechanical which has been proven by most of your previous posts
people on here can draw their own conclusions i dont give a monkeys either way!

nah il still give help to whoever needs it buddy, just none to him. but then hes got a team of quality technicians at his disposal anyway:lol:

oki what ever your right im wrong what ever !"!!!!!!!!!!!!

the fact it was my dad that drove it all the way throught england as i was not insured in the uk for this car ... so ur saying my dad ramped it are you ?? when it was me telling him every five minuits do not go over 3500 rpm!!!!!!!

the facts are the car fucked up at dover and i phoned you explaining blah blah blah
saying (the battery light came on and that it was smoking badly out f the engine bay near the alternator you said i dont know really could be a faulty alternator!!!! )also i emailed and phoned a few times asking what could be possibly drinking the coolant you came back saying air lock in the system!!!!!!

i have spent a fair bit on this car already so much so i was kicked out the house till i paid my rent money which i spent on the car thinking it would fix it with new ht leads new coil pack and plugs !!!!! and more!!!!!

i also sent you a message to day to ur email bob stating i had a shit time with the car and that you will get ur money on the 30 of september as this will be the first pay slip i see any money from!! as the last 3 months i havent seen any money at all!!!!!!! (paying loan off 4 the car trying to buy bits for the car to run how it should buy the correct oil; like you said 10W50 i am sorry i dont know what else to do/ say!!!
the car has not been ragged if read the emails you can see it asnt been ragged cos you cant ragg it as it wont rev !!!! oh how ever on the other side it has been reved up in nutral to 6-7 rpm doing this twice will not harm the engine !!!

oh also where i work they rebuild mainly 4x4 engines being where i live and they put new pistons in and bearings and let it warm up to a normal temp then ramp it and they never break or have oil leaks or any of the bollocks i have had!!!!!

at the end of the day every one on this site are going to listen to you as your some kind of super person and gd at what you do!!! but you are aloud to make mistakes it does happen example my car was NOT RAGGED OUT in any way in my dads hands or my hands and it fooked up with in 3 hours!!!!

have a gd night to all other gtir owners hope u never have this kind of problem/ situation i have

If it fucked up within 3 hour's why did you not take it back?

I'd love to know what you have done with that engine as i have a fair clue already.

Just face it you were caught out because your serious lack of knowledge, mechanical sympathy toward's this viehcle. and you have also short changed the sellar and lied many time's! (Bob would have prob fixed your car had you not tried to stitch him up)

Bit of a prat really are you not?!

sounds like a silly little boy broke his toy , then threw his dummy out the pram:baby boy:

as Danny has stated ,had you not fleeced the guy £300 and returned the car as soon as you found a fault ,he would of fixed the prob because thats the sorta stand up fella Bob is,

every one on here respects Bob and his business his reputation is second to none! for a very good reason

why didnt i take it back umm i know why maybe cos i have booked a ferry and have not got thousands of euros to go up and down england plus i have work the next day!!

oh red hearing what have i done to the engine then u know fook all about my car???

apart from oil changes spark plugs and the whole ignition system i have done fook all

i also have the email about the money i owe bob 165 pound not 300 where the hell has that came from???

as said he will have his money on the 30 th of september i never ment to rip him of if he had put the money in the day i bought the car or even the monday it wouldnt of happened but no it was exchanged about 4 days later and the exchange rate went sky high

I second that a well respected mechanic on both forums and everyone on here can vouch for his work including all the people who have brought engines and re-builds..If I buy anything I'd always pay the right money ..So leaving anyone £300 short is not very sporting is it??..Plus I wouldn't be caning the car home with a new engine ..I've got a lot of time for bob and he is the most honest chap you'll ever meet .. Plus everyone on both forums has had work done on there car past and present from bob so VERY HIGHLY UNLIKELY that he would sell you a lemon .. Just face the fact you've can't follow written instructions than you've got no hope.

There is not one person on either forum that can say one bad word about :boby:

You have been posting on this and the modifier's site for age's now with your various stories and bullshit,my eye's do not lie to me but you seem to now belive your own bullshit too! I had a romainian buy a car off me and he paid in pound note's (how come he can do that and you could'nt),instead you fucked up on payment and you are still making him wait??!! If you had a fault with the car in such a short space of time you should have returned it (ferry or no ferry). Your so called sooper doopa technician you work with should have comp and leakdown tested the car before you spent any money on repair's that you obviosley did'nt need.

we can go on all night............ at the end of the day i have been watching what you have posted and you constantley contradict yourself!
