10k budget...dream GTIR question

If you had 10k (maybe a little more) including all parts and labour to build your dream gtir how would you spec it?

I'm talking Engine, handling, brakes, paint the whole thing....Rich from Redlines car would be target although I'm certain that would have blown the 10k budget quite easily.

The car would be for weekend blasts and the odd track day and reliability was the prority.

Be interested on peoples thoughts.

Personally, I would buy a very nice gtir with no expense spared for circa £5k which already has a few mods done and spend the remainder on finishing the car off.

I guess depends on what sort of power you are looking for but 400 - 450bhp is not unrealistic.

A Quaife box is circa £2k second hand and one of the most expensive items but well worth it.

Well, well, well!.. Look whose back!

Personally, I'd buy a decent forged up car for good money.

Brakes, Suspension (BC/APEX Coilovers), Whiteline Kit - £1500

ECU, Boost Controller - You could go for the Fusion Ed daughter board as it works and its very cheap - £500/£700.

Bucket Seats, Cage and Harness - £1500

GT3071R Direct Fit - £900

That should just about cover £10k including a decent car to start with.. You may even get a lot of that on the car already for decent money. Just need to look around..

I still pop my head in from time to time mate.

I don't expect the Gtir bug ever really goes away and I'm knocking on a bit now but my little brain started ticking over recently because i found an old copy of Revs magazine with my car feature...but then i remember that they are 20 years old now and a pain in the back side.

There never seems to be much for sale that catches my eye, most seem like old smokers these days, if only Rich at Redline was looking to sell around now rather than last year i would have snapped his arm off for that bad boy.

It's been a work in progress for about 18 years so is yours nearly ready?

Hi dean
it was your old white one that made me fall in love with racelines, then at the banzai shootout you had the red and white theme, i've recently bought another which is in very good condition, not as good as rich's one though. I went to look at quite a few and most were pretty poor tbh. There will be the odd good one though .

Mines been almost done for ages now. When it will actually be done is anyones guess. Its actually been running for quite a while now. Its just needing a final mapping so I've been told. I get email updates from time to time. They have admitted that they have left it on the back burner for quite some time as they were busy buying themselves out of the previous owners, changing dynos and all that sort of thing.. I haven't really hassled them for it as I lost interest after the whole RC Development scandal and not having my car done when it should have been back then.. I should probably check in again to see where we are with it though..

Hello Chris,

I don't really know what i was thinking with the red and white theme...i should have stuck with it as white and gold...i loved the Racelines too, they were proper sexy.

I did notice you were on the look out, i hope it works out for you.

I bought one last month, 430bhp, the body has had a respray and its had the arches replaced, i paid 5k for it which is a lot but i also no how much i would of had to spend to get one to that spec. Im just having trouble insuring it cos all my ncb are on my normal car.

10k doesnt go far if you build your own car, best to buy someone elses and finish it off with what dosh you have left
